PrePaid Credit Cards

Pre-paid credit cards are already big business In the USA and they are set to become a significant proportion of the credit card market in the future in the UK. With the squeeze on credit many more people are finding it difficult to achieve high enough credit scoring to successfully apply for a reasonable rate credit card. The only alternative is higher rate offerings. However by going for a pre-paid option you can re-build you credit rating by demonstrating your ability to successfully pay for goods and services. Other people who may be in this position would include immigrants with no credit history at all. There other benefits too besides the guaranteed acceptance for the pre-paid options. Some people will find it far easier to manage their budgets when they can only spend up to their actual current financial ability to pay. The pre-paid credit cards are used in exactly the same way as a conventional credit card but the limits of a debit card. However there is no need to tie yourself to a bank account which for some is just as hard to setup as a credit card for some of the same reasons of poor or lack of a credit history. There are several merchants offering pre-pay with some letting you withdraw cash from an ATM and some will let you use the card abroad.
A big plus for these type of cards is that it allows parents to provide kids with a form of spending without the dangers of them overspending and with a pre-set limit. You get to see the purchases via the account management.
Its not all good news though, you should be aware that some of the protection schemes offered by credit cards won’t apply to purchases with a pre-pay. You also will need to pay a fee, either monthly, on renewal or even sometimes for inactivity. Be sure to check out the fee’s that will apply. They are also not subject to the same regulation as normal credit cards.
You must also check the cost of paying money to your card as the method used can attract very different fees. For example via high street branch it may be free while topping up via a credit card may be around 3% of the value of the top up. Beware that a fee may be charged to cancel the card and retrieve its balance.

Summary of benefits:
No Credit Checks
No Bank Account Required
Guaranteed Acceptance
Use it just as you would a normal debit/credit card
no danger of falling into unauthorised over draught fee's

3V vouchers are a way of making credit card purchases online, offline and by phone and and yet still not expose your personal credit card details. 2V can thought of as a kind of proxy credit card. That is to say it appears to be your details in use but in reality the details if anyone came to close them are those of 3V. It’s actually a very simply scheme where you have your own personal 3V card (free for just the card) which you then use to but vouchers. These vouchers contain unique visa credit card details. When you make your purchase these are the details you enter as your credit card details. You spend up to the value of the voucher. It also removes the need for a credit at all so people with poor credit records who are unable to obtain a credit card can still make online purchases using 3V vouchers. It even further, there's no need even for a bank account to make use of the vouchers. The security of the vouchers is ensured as the expiry date and rear security code number are sent to you separately, either be email or by text. Vouchers can be bought at payzone outlets and where you see the 3V logo displayed. Vouchers are available from £20 to £200 in £10 increments.

Voucher cost: £3.50
fee for redeeming unused credits: £1.75
foreign currency fee: 1.75%
you must be over 16 to purchase vouchers

The scheme has proved a success in trials in Ireland since 2005 from this Dublin based company but with offices in London too.
